Antique Yomut Turkmen tribal ceremonial horse cover.
This horse cover belongs to a small group of well known ceremonial horse covers and associated items woven by the Yomut Turkmen tribes of North Eastern Persia. The cover in finely knotted with dense velvet like pile, giving the item the strength required for use. The banded design in shades of madder red, indigo blue and beige is typical of this group of weavings.
The cover is in original condition with very slight wear and almost full pile, the dye quality is superb give the rich colours required for use on special occasions such as a tribal wedding.
